Farnham furniture showroom… NOW OPEN!

Farnham residents may have been wondering what would become of the large commercial buildings on Dogflud Way, formerly the car showrooms of Swain and Jones, next to Lidl and opposite Farnham Leisure Centre. Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice is proud to announce that we have taken on this property as a major part of our overall development strategy. On Friday 3 April 2009, we opened our doors for the first time to the public with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by the Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Gillian Beele, and celebrity Bargain Hunt expert (and furniture fan!), James Braxton.

Furniture showroom

The window-fronted area has been transformed into a huge second-hand furniture showroom. The Hospice already sells quality furniture through several of its twelve shops across the catchment area, but this new showroom will enable the retail team to display the pieces in custom-designed spacious surroundings. Second-hand furniture is a popular and profitable area of the Hospice’s retail operations, particularly as so many people are shopping more carefully in the current economic climate. Having a designated area for storing, viewing and purchasing will help the team to develop this income stream further.

Residents in our catchment area will be able to call the showroom/donation centre to offer a donation of furniture, a member of the collection/delivery team will visit to inspect the item and collect it at no charge if it is deemed suitable for sale. Customers to the showroom with then be able to browse the full range of furniture, and make their purchase. A nominal delivery charge will be added for those pieces too large to be taken home by their new owner, if they choose to request a delivery from the collection/delivery team.

THE FURNITURE SHOWROOM IS OPEN BETWEEN 9AM AND 5PM MONDAY TO SATURDAY

Donation centre

Secondly, these new premises house a large donation centre next to the showroom for residents in the surrounding areas to drop off items to be donated to the Hospice shops. This area will be staffed by volunteers, who will sort and distribute items among the twelve Hospice shops. This is intended to be an easier option for local residents, solving the car parking issues of some of the Hospice’s town centre shops, and simplifying the whole donation and distribution process.

This second area will also eventually house all of the recycling initiatives that are currently sited at the Hospice itself on Waverley Lane. This isn't likely to happen for a little while yet so please keep bringing your recycling to the Hospice as usual until we announce our new plans!

Making a donation to the shops

We are able to take deliveries of shop stock donations at the donation centre. For offers of furniture donations, please call the furniture showroom on 01252 710679 to arrange an inspection and collection from our retail team.
